Seeding progress ahead of five year average in the Peace says first crop report of 2025

The first crop report of the year from Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation and AFSC, dated May 6, says just under 10 per seeding had been done by that date.

The five year average for the same date is four per cent

The most progress had been made in planting spring wheat, with just over 24 per cent in the ground. Just under 16 per cent of the dry peas, just under 7 per cent of the barley, 5.5 per cent of the oats, and just over one per cent of the canola had also been seeded.

The report says 57 per cent of the sub-surface soil moisture is rated good, 23 per cent excellent, 17 per cent fair, three per cent poor, and one per cent excessive.

Surface soil moisture is rated 51.6 per cent good, 15.5 per cent excellent, 23.3 per cent fair, 7.9 per cent poor, and 1.7 per cent excessive.

Three per cent of the tame hay is rated excellent, 36 per cent good, 39 per cent fair, and 22 per cent poor.

Pasture ratings are three per cent excellent, 37.5 per cent good, 39.5 per cent fair, and the rest poor.
