New crop report says seeding completion over 25 per cent in the Peace

The May 13 crop report from Alberta Agriculture and AFSC says 26.6 per cent of the crop in the Peace had been seeded by that date.

Progress had been at just under 10 per cent as of May 6.

The five-year average for seeding completion as of May 13 is 19.4 per cent with the 10-year average 18.4 per cent.

More than 46 per cent of the spring wheat, over 39 per cent of the dry peas, 19 per cent of the barley, close to 18 per cent of the oats and 14.5 per cent of the canola had been planted by that time.

Some of the crop is up, with emergence at eight per cent for wheat, three per cent for dry peas and two per cent for barley and oats.

Seventy per cent of sub-surface soil moisture is rated good to excellent with the rest fair or poor.
