Valleyview man charged after allegedly asking children for sexual services

RCMP in Valleyview say they have arrested and charged a man accused of asking children for sexual services in exchange for money on the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

The report came into the Valleyview detachment on May 5, 2025. As a result of the investigation by Valleyview RCMP, Western Alberta District General Investigative Section, and the Caribou Child Advocacy Centre, a suspect was identified.

On May 20, 2025, Valleyview resident , 49-year-old Shawn Atkinson, was arrested and charged with:

  • Two counts of assault
  • One count of obtaining sexual services for consideration by a person under 18

Atkinson was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released. He is scheduled to appear in Valleyview court on June 19, 2025.

RCMP in Valleyview would like to thank members of the public as well as the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation for their assistance in identifying the suspect.
