More than 60 per cent of the Peace Country crop seeded

The May 20 crop report from Alberta Agriculture and AFSC says more than 61 per cent of the seeding in the Peace had been completed by that date.

The five-year average is just under 45 per cent, the 10-year average 47.5.

More than 81 per cent of the spring wheat, over 73 per cent of the peas, 52 per cent of the barley, just under 52 per cent of the oats, and 50 per cent of the canola were in as of the 20th.

Across Alberta, over 73 per cent of the crop is in, ahead of the five-year average of 59 per cent.

Fifty-seven per cent of the surface soil moisture is rated good, 31.5 per cent fair, just under 3 per cent excellent, and just under 9 per cent poor.

Sub-surface soil moisture is rated 63 per cent good, 28 per cent fair, six per cent excellent, and three per cent poor.

Seventy-eight per cent of pasture growth is good or fair, just under 18 per cent poor, and 4 per cent excellent.

Seventy-seven per cent of tame hay is good or fair, 19 per cent poor, and four per cent excellent.
