Ground broken for Mountview Health Complex

May 28, 2025 | 2:12 PM

The highly anticipated Mountview Health Complex in Beaverlodge has officially broken ground.

On Wednesday May 28, 2025, local dignitaries as well as provincial representatives were at the future home of the health facility to turn sod to mark the start of construction. Premier Danielle Smith was in attendance and put a shovel in the ground to mark to occasion alongside MLA’s, ministers, and municipal politicians.

Beaverlodge Mayor Gary Rycroft says he’s ecstatic, as this has been a dream for the town for nearly 40 years

“We wouldn’t have got this done without the people in the Town of Beaverlodge. I wasn’t the only guy. There’s a whole committee and there was probably ten council’s since I started that have worked on this project, I just happen to be the guy here at the end.”

Rycroft says money was an issue to get funding through the province, so the facility is being built by Landrex Inc., owned by the Town of Beaverlodge, and leased and operated by Alberta Health Services.

“When we went to the P3 partnership model, they guided through all the things we needed to do, told us who we needed to meet with, kind of helped on the processes. We would’ve been lost.”

The land for the complex was donated by the late Doris McFarland, who worked as a nurse in the community for many years. It is right off Highway 43 heading into Beaverlodge.

Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA Ron Wiebe says the sod turning marks a great day for Beaverlodge.

“Sometimes when things go fast we don’t appreciate it as much, but when we’re waiting for something for so long it really, really means a whole bunch. I want to thank the community for being patient.”

Wiebe hopes the P3 partnership model for the Mountview Health Complex will be in the cards for new facilities in the future.
