Kelly Lake Wildfire leads to evacuation alert for part of the County of Grande Prairie

May 29, 2025 | 5:00 PM

A wildfire near Kelly Lake has now led to an evacuation alert for part of the County of Grande Prairie.

The county says the alert is for the area north of Township Road 720 to Township Road 732 and east from the B.C./Alberta boundary to Range Road 130.

The county adds that the fire is now seven kilometres from the border.

The county is advising anyone living in that area that they should get themselves and their livestock ready to leave. People will have 30 minutes to get out if an evacuation order is issued.

Residents should gather their documents, pets, medical necessities and enough food and water to be away from home for at least a week.

The County Regional Fire Service has activated two teams to install sprinklers on homes.

Any producers registered with the Livestock Emergency Response Plan are being contacted at the county’s Agriculture Department.
