Heat records broke on Sunday in Peace Region

Jun 9, 2025 | 1:40 PM

Three places in the Peace Region saw the mercury hit new highs on Sunday, June 8.

According to Environment Canada: Beaverlodge, Grande Prairie, and Slave Lake all recorded new temperature maximums.

In Grande Prairie, it was 30.4 degrees Celsius, beating the record set in 2023 of 28.5 degrees Celsius.

It was 29.6 degrees Celsius in Beaverlodge, beating a 113-year-old record of 28.3 degrees Celsius.

In Slave Lake the record from 1922 of 27.9 degrees Celsius was narrowly beat, with the sun beating down at 28.3 degrees Celsius.

The national weather office says these unseasonably high temperatures were caused by a ridge of high pressure across Alberta.
