Wildfire Smoke

Peace region under special Air Quality Statement

Jun 10, 2025 | 11:38 AM

Widespread wildfire smoke may have some Albertans donning face masks over the next few days.

Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for areas as far north as High Level and as far south as Medicine Hat.

Currently in Grande Prairie, the Air Quality Health Index is very high, sitting at plus ten, according to the Peace Airshed Zone Association.

The weather service says the smoke is causing poor air quality and people may experience health problems, including eye, nose and throat irritation.

If people have to spend time outside, they are encouraged to wear a mask to reduce exposure to fine particles in the smoke.
