GPFA says firefighters remained “busy” before last weekend’s rain

Jun 16, 2025 | 2:11 PM

The Grande Prairie Firefighters Association says last week was a busy time for its crews.

From June 6 to 13 GPFA says they responded to 115 calls, and its 911 operators fielded over 2,000 in seven days.

Of those 115 calls responded to, 69 were fire events, including five structure fires, four vegetation fires, and a vehicle fire; Firefighters also responded to 46 medical events and supported wildfire suppression efforts in both Red Earth Creek and Kelly Lake.

Now with fire dangers lowered thanks to the recent rain, GPFA is giving thanks to the community for its support during a busy time, and said they are extremely thankful for this weekend’s rain.
