Kiskatinaw River, Hamelin Creek Wildfires update

Jun 19, 2025 | 6:00 AM

The County of Grande Prairie says suppression efforts on the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire are now taking place in Alberta.

The county says crews are working along the southern perimeter.

The evacuation alert for everyone between Township Roads 710 and 740 and east of the boundary to Range Road 132 is still in place.

Fire watchers in the Grande Prairie Forest Area says this blaze is now estimated at over 26,600 hectares in size and is still considered out of control.

Meantime, the Hamelin Creek Wildfire is also considered out of control. It has burned over 5,500 hectares.

This fire means Moonshine Lake Provincial Park is still closed.

An evacuation order remains in place for the park and for the area between Township Road 794 and Highway 680 and Range Road 95 and Highway 725.

The order includes all of the Crown land north of Township Road 800 and south of the Blueberry Mountain Grazing Reserve.

The fire is not threatening any buildings.

There is also an out of control fire burning 78 kilometres south of Grande Prairie, 19 kilometres east of Highway 40.

It has burned 247 hectares.

Officials say some steep areas are hard to get at, but crews continue to work on this fire. Rain has helped firefighting efforts.

The Grande Prairie Forest Area has had 41 fires so far this year that have burned over 5,800 hectares.
