GPPL Summer Reading Games kickoff on Sunday

Jun 20, 2025 | 12:15 PM

The Grande Prairie Public Library is excited to ring in the summer months with their 2025 Summer Reading Games kickoff party this weekend.

On Sunday, June 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the community is invited to come to the library for a free, family-friendly event.

GPPL says there will be bouncy houses, face painting, games, and activities for all ages. There will also be an exclusive teen competition area this year.

Technical Search and Rescue will also be on hand at the event to teach survival skills like shelter building, and Safety City will be giving tips on having a safe and fun summer.

Festivities will take place in Teresa Sargent Hall, in the Mamawe Concourse, and outside the Montrose Cultural Centre on the green space.

The Summer Reading Games run from June 26 to August 16 and open to all ages. Participants can read anything — chapter books, picture books, graphic novels, or audiobooks — and complete fun challenges to earn free books and enter draws for amazing prizes throughout the summer. There are reading game challenges for children, teens, and adults, with summer prizes for each category.

GPPL says this year’s theme is: Taleblazers: Exploring the Outdoors Through Stories, and encourages readers to connect with nature and explore the world beyond the page.
