GPPSD appoints new Superintendent of Schools

The Grande Prairie Public School Division Board of Trustees has appointed a new Superintendent of Schools.

James Robinson has been appointed as superintendent and Chief Executive Officer of the division, moving up from his previous roles as assistant and deputy superintendent, jobshe has held for the past 12 years.

Robinson holds Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of New Brunswick, as well as a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary.

We are proud to appoint James Robinson as Superintendent of Schools. Our Board collected feedback from parents and staff about the characteristics they wanted to see in our next Superintendent and James emerged as the leading candidate in a highly competitive process. We are excited about the future of our division under his experienced and thoughtful leadership. James brings a valuable blend of continuity and fresh vision to the role—positioning him well to build on our strengths and help shape a bright future for our students, staff and school communities. He officially takes over his new role from outgoing superintendent Sandy McDonald effective January 1, 2026.
