Smuggled handgun and drugs seized during traffic stop in Grande Prairie

Mounties in Grande Prairie have arrested and charged a man on outstanding warrants, alongside a hefty seizure of drugs and a handgun that was smuggled into Canada through the U.S.

RCMP say on June 7, 2025, they pulled over a person driving a Jeep Cherokee that was registered to an owner with outstanding warrants for failure to comply with court orders.

The driver was identified by police and was arrested.

A search of the vehicle turned up many items that were seized:

  • A loaded handgun smuggled from Texas, USA
  • 66.7 grams of meth
  • 28 grams of cocaine
  • 19 oxy pills
  • Drug paraphernalia associated to trafficking
  • Unstamped tobacco

As a result, 33-year-old Kyle Louis Bird has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)
  • Failure to comply with order (x2)
  • Firearm-related offences (x4)
  • Possession of unstamped tobacco
  • Possession of proceeds of crime

Bird was released on conditions and is set to appear in Grande Prairie court on December 10, 2025.
