Grande Prairie Police Services celebrates graduation of fourth Experienced Officer Program

Jun 29, 2025 | 6:00 AM

Grande Prairie Police Service is celebrating the graduation of their fourth Experienced Officer Class.

The four new GPPS officers had a graduation ceremony Friday at the Grande Prairie Public Library.

The graduates bring service backgrounds from Calgary, Lacombe, Lakeshore and Sainte-Anne, Manitoba and experience in fields like tactical operations, community policing and training.

Each graduation ceremony marks more than just the end of a training program; they are milestones in our journey to build a police service that is uniquely tailored to Grande Prairie. With every experienced officer and recruit that joins our ranks, we grow stronger, more connected, and better prepared to serve our city. Dwayne Lakusta, Grande Prairie Police Service Chief

The Grande Prairie Police Service is blazing a new trail for modern policing and is already having a strong impact in the community. We’re thankful for this latest round of graduates, who are going to continue to build the GPPS visibility, strengthen our community safety, and support the successful transition to a municipal police model. The Experienced Officer Program lasts five weeks and equips officers with essential knowledge and local context.

Three of the experienced officers will be working with the RCMP, while the fourth will join the GPPS training team.
