Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Grande Prairie and surrounding area

It could be a stormy Canada Day.

Severe thunderstorm watches have been issued for the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview and Whitecourt-Edson-Fox Creek-Swan Hills forecast areas.

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

The storms are expected to begin late this morning or early afternoon.

Residents are being advised to stay indoors if they start to hear thunder.
