Pedestrian hit & run leads to arrest

Jul 2, 2025 | 6:19 AM

The Grande Prairie RCMP have made an arrest stemming from a pedestrian hit-and-run in the city that happened on Friday, June 27.

Mounties found EMS attending to the victim when they arrived on scene, who was suffering from life-threatening injuries; their condition has since stabilized.

Further into their investigation, RCMP reviewed footage showing a vehicle hit the pedestrian on the sidewalk, which resulted in RCMP identifying both the driver and vehicle.

It was also revealed that both the suspect and victim knew each other.

Isaac Michael Piekma, a 22-year-old Grande Prairie resident had three charges laid against him:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Failure to stop at scene of accident after knowingly causing bodily harm

Piekma appeared in court Monday, June 30.

Superintendent Steve McLeod, Officer in Charge of the Grande Prairie RCMP Detachment, wants to reassure the public that this was a targeted and isolated incident and not part of a larger threat to the community.
