Fish die-off observed in Bear Creek

Jul 6, 2025 | 10:00 AM

The City of Grande Prairie is notifying residents of a fish die-off occurring in Bear Creek.

The highest concentration of affected fish is in the Muskoseepi Park area between the reservoir to the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion.

This is a seasonal event that typically occurs in the spring or summer when temperatures in water rise, and fish develop diseases after weakening their immune systems during spawning season.

The City is advising residents to avoid swimming and other recreational activities in affected areas, to refrain from fishing or consuming fish near the die off, and the keep pets away from any dead fish they may encounter.

The City is working with the County of Grande Prairie and Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services to monitor and respond to the situation.

The pond at Muskoseepi Park is not affected by the fish die-off and the stocked trout species are safe.
