Vigen wins Rangeland Derby title, Tournier wins in Teepee Creek

The fourth time was the charm for Grande Prairie product Chanse Vigen at the Calgary Stampede’s Rangeland Derby.

Vigen won his first championship Sunday night in his fourth appearance in the final

Vigen’s outriders were Rory Gervais, Ethan Motowylo, and Trey MacGillvray.

Vigen’s winning time off of Barrel 3 was 1:11.24; 1.27 faster than second place Jason Glass. The defending champion. Jamie Laboucane wound up third after hitting a barrel.

Vigen’s time was also the fastest on Sunday night and he remained in first place in the aggregate.

Teepee Creek

Lane Tournier drove dad Luke’s wagon to a WPCA championship at the Teepee Creek Stampede.

Lane was filling in after Luke was injured in Wainwright and knocked out of competition for the season.

Tournier’s total running time over the three days was 2:50.46, two seconds faster than Doug Irvine.

Grande Prairie’s Kirk Sutherland finished third. Lane Kimble was fifth, Tuff Dreger eighth, and Dean Dreger tenth.

Tournier’s outriders were Quinn Langevin and Britt Irvine.

The next stop for the WPCA circuit will be High River starting July 24.
