GPFA wildfire danger level still high

Jul 18, 2025 | 6:29 AM

The wildfire danger level in the Grande Prairie Forest area still sits at high.

Alberta Wildfire is urging caution, as both recent and forecasted warm temperatures and strong winds have left vegetation dry, and fires can spread quickly.

Currently in the GPFA, there are three wildfires of note and all are being held; one of those blazes is the Kisatkinaw River Wildfire, which BC Wildfire is now crediting lightning as the cause.

Since January 1, there have been 74 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area, burning a total of 5,855 hectares.
