Saddle Hills County advising public to stay away from Active Fire Guards
Jul 18, 2025 | 6:00 AM
Saddle Hills County is reminding all residents and visitors to stay off active fire guards.
This message is being spread after several individuals were seen using the freshly plowed guards as recreational routes and ATV trails, potentially impacting the work along fire perimeters.
The guards are not open to public access as they are part of an active emergency zone and can contain various hazards like unstable trees, helicopters performing bucket drops, and residual hot spots and flare-ups.
The county is spreading the same message as BC Wildfire Service and Alberta Forestry: Fire guards are for fire crews, not for recreation.
