Crop conditions improve but still below historical averages in the Peace

Jul 23, 2025 | 6:00 AM

The July 15 provincial crop report says 27.6 per cent of the major crops in the Peace were in good or excellent condition as of that date.

That is up from 23.6 per cent in the July 8 report.

The five year average is 58.4 per cent, the 10-year average is 60.4 per cent.

Alberta Agriculture and AFSC say the Peace is the only area in Alberta where current numbers are below the averages.

Across Alberta, 65.8 per cent of the major crops are in good or excellent condition.

The report also says soil moisture conditions remain dry. Grasshoppers are said to be “above threshold levels.”

First cut haying is 76 per cent complete. The hay yield is 1.2 tons per acre on average.

Since that report was compiled, Grande Prairie received 11.4 millimetres of rain, or between four-tenths and a half inch.

The Environment Canada Daily Data report says there 4.2 millimetres of ran fell on Friday and another 7.2 millimetres on Monday.
