More details on officer involved fatal shooting near Grande Prairie released
The province has released more details of an officer involved shooting that occurred in Grande Prairie last week.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team was directed to investigate an incident that started around 10:36 p.m. on July 18. A Peace Officer saw a vehicle being driven erratically while conducting an unrelated traffic stop.
The vehicle was spotted again around 11:26 pm near the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment. Officers pursued the vehicle outside city limits before it came to a stop in a rural area.
Mounties gave verbal commands to an individual after they had exited the vehicle. ASIRT says during an interaction, the person in the vehicle produced a weapon that appeared to be a firearm. Police discharged their weapons, striking the individual.
