Alberta has won the gold medal at the U18 Female Football National Championship.

Alberta beat Ontario 27-19 in overtime in the gold medal game played Saturday in Calgary.

Isabelle McFaul and Kirklynn Unger of Sexsmith are both on the Alberta team.

Alberta also won the men’s U18 Football Canada Cup earlier in July, also beating Ontario in the final. Four players from the Peace were on that team.

The two gold medals come after silver medals in three other events.

Alberta dropped the gold medal game 32-17 to Saskatchewan at the U16 Western Regional Challenge July 5 in Winnipeg.

Dmitri Klassen from the Grande Prairie Broncos and St. Joe’s Celtics was on that Alberta team.

Manitoba defeated Alberta 42-35 in the gold medal game at the U18 Indigenous Cup July 6, also in Winnipeg.

Alberta’s team included Ryley Foster and Hayden Phillips from the Celtics and Hayden Curry of the Peace River Prospectors.

Saskatchewan also beat Alberta 28-17 in the final of the U17 Western Canada Showcase played July 10 in Kelowna.

Khyro Pratt from the Celtics was on Alberta’s team.
