Jul 29, 2025 | 7:00 AM

Arrests have been made after a dead body was found in a wooded area of Atikameg First Nation at the end of 2024.

A body was found on December 30, and was noted to have “suspicious injuries.”

RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was then called in to assist, leading to the MCU taking over the investigation.

An autopsy was then done in January by the Chief Medical Examiner’s office that deemed the death a homicide. The victim was identified as 26-year-old Christian Mitchell of Atikameg First Nation.

On Friday, July 25, a 44-year-old male Atikameg resident, Rodney Nahachik and a 15-year-old youth, were arrested and remanded into custody. Both have been charged with second-degree murder .

Both appeared in High Prairie court on Monday, July 28.
