City of Grande Prairie traffic to be impacted by Heritage Day Hindu Chariot Festival Aug. 2

The City of Grande Prairie is advising of traffic and transit impacts happening Saturday, August 2, for the Heritage Day Hindu Chariot Festival.

The festival features large, elaborately decorated chariots that are pulled in a parade procession.

It will leaving south on 99 Street from the Montrose Cultural Centre before heading on to 102 Street towards the amphitheater in Muskoseepi Park.

During the procession 99 Street will be closed from the Centre to 101 Avenue; 101 Avenue eastbound is restricted from 102 Street to 99 Street and 101 Avenue westbound will be closed behind the procession, reopening as it clears the intersection.

Transit routes are expected to continue operating but may be delayed for up to 15 minutes, and Route 8 may need to skip Stop 838 around 1:41 p.m.

The procession is slated to begin around 11:15 a.m. and is expected to take about three hours.
