Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital ED without on-site doctor

Aug 11, 2025 | 11:10 AM

The local healthcare facility in Beaverlodge is without a doctor until Tuesday morning.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says the Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital’s Emergency Department will be without an on-site physician until Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 6:00 a.m.

During this time, nurses are on site to provide triage, assessments, and referrals to neighbouring facilities as needed.

People are still asked to call 911 if they are experiencing a medical emergency as EMS remains available in the community to re-route to surrounding communities like the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Virtual Emergency Physician coverage may be available for all or part of this service advisory. The Virtual Emergency Physician program uses an experienced ED physician to remotely support facilities, temporarily without available on-site ED physician support. Site clinical staff can connect with an AHS physician by telephone or videoconference for ED patients with non-life-threatening issues. The off-site virtual physician can collaborate with local staff, speak with patients, order tests and medications and transfer or discharge patients.

Community members are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions. Depending on needs, patients may also be aware of services available through local pharmacies.
