Alberta Open Farm Days set for Saturday and Sunday

Alberta Open Farm Days is set for Saturday and Sunday.

The weekend gives people a chance to visit farms and ranches, see food production first-hand, and try and buy locally produced products.

There are several operations in the Peace taking part.

Country Roads RV Park/Halwa Family Farms will have a corn maze, gem mining, wine tasting, local music, wagon rides and a bunch of other things on both days.

Hay & Heifers – Scottish Highland Cattle Farm near Grande Prairie will host visitors who want to see its livestock on Saturday and Sunday.

The Wembley & District Agricultural Society, Wembley Arts Cultural and Historical Society, Hildebrand Bison Farm, and Haskap Berry Farms will all host Fall Fair activities on Saturday. There will be a farmers market, petting zoo, carnival games and other things. Hildebrand Bison Farm will partner with a local Indigenous group to teach about what it calls “the traditional love of bison” on Saturday. There will be bison meat for sale and a U-Pick vegetable garden. Haskap also has a U-Pick. The Heritage Site is open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday. There will be a quilt show and pie sale at the school and church

Sunflower & Swallow Gardens and Greenhouse will host visitors on Sunday. People can walk through sunflowers, wildflowers, and pumpkins an see some small farm animals. There will also be several kids activities.

The South Peace Centennial Museum will host activities for kids and mini train rides for visitors on Saturday.

HH Farmstore near Goodfare is promising “a fun-filled day of community, local goods, and good vibes ” Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Good Food Farm near Sexsmith will have guided farm tours at 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. There will also be a fire pit, or BBQ, where people can bring a picnic and/or something to cook on the fire/BBQ.

Grow North Gardens near Fairview will host tours of its flower field and give presentations on various plants and plant health, among other things on Sunday.

The Farm on Dead Horse Flats & Peace River Petals near Baytree will host the grand opening of its flower U-Pick Saturday and Sunday. People can bring a picnic if they like.

Hedibuilt Farms in the Faust area will take people out to see the cattle. There will also be an artisanal market, hay maze, and sunflower patch. It will be open Saturday and Sunday.
