City of Grande Prairie fire restriction lifted

Aug 15, 2025 | 10:32 AM

As of Thursday afternoon, the City of Grande Prairie’s fire restriction has been lifted.

This was done after the region received 4.8 mm of rain this month, according to Enviroment and Climate Change Canada, which led to the Grande Prairie Forest Area wildfire danger level now sitting at low.

Now, only fireworks and open burn barrels are prohibited, while residents can enjoy other forms of burning:

  • Residential fire pits
  • Propane/natural gas BBQs, fire pits, and appliances.
  • Charcoal briquette BBQs.
  • Wood pellet smokers/BBQs.
  • Indoor wood fireplaces.
  • Smudge fires

However, the City does ask that if you are going to burn, do so with caution.
