Slight improvement in Peace crop conditions says August 5 crop report

The province’s August 5 crop report says that 24.9 per cent of the major crops in the Peace were in good or excellent condition as of that date.

That is a gain of 2.8 per cent from the week before.

The five-year average is 50.3 per cent, the 10-year average 57 per cent.

Across Alberta, 63.6 per cent of major crops were in good to excellent condition as of August 5.

The report also says that 21 per cent of the major crops in the Peace were in poor condition as of that date, with 54 per cent rated fair.

Canola is suffering most in the drought, with 22 per cent rated good to excellent. Dry peas are doing the best at 30.1 per cent.

The rating is 27.7 per cent for spring wheat, 26.3 for oats and 24.9 per cent for barley.
