Baseball

The Peace River Stampeders and Rycroft Rage will try again tonight (Friday, Aug. 15) in Peace River to finish Game 2 of the Wheatbelt Baseball League final.

The teams had planned to finish the suspended contest Wednesday, but Mother Nature had other ideas.

The game is tied 1-1 in the sixth inning and is scheduled to resume at 6:45 p.m.

The Rage lead the series 2-0.

Game 4, if needed, would also be played tonight in Peace River.

Football

The Peace Country Cowboys will host the Cold Lake Fighter Jets in an Alberta Football League semi-final Saturday.

Kick-off time is 6:30 p.m. at CKC Field.

The Cowboys shared the following video on their social media page:

The Calgary Gators will play the Calgary Wolfpack in the other semi-final.

The AFL final is set for Aug. 23.

Rugby

The Grande Prairie Centaurs men’s team is in Edmonton Saturday to play the Lep Tigers.

Game time is 2 p.m.

On the women’s side, the Grande Prairie Sirens have advanced in the playoffs without playing a game.

They were to play the Rockers in a quarter final match-up, but that team had to forfeit.

The Sirens’ next game is scheduled for Aug. 23.

Horses

Horse racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Evergreen Park.

Post time will be 1:15 p.m. both days.

Sunday is Family Fun Day at the Races.

Evergreen Park says on its website that there will be bouncy castles for big and little kids, wagon rides and face-painting, among other things.

There are seven races scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday’s races will include the ACTRA Alberta Bred Stakes with a purse of $15,400 and the Bert Delaney Memorial Race.

Shooting

The Wapiti Shooters Club is hosting the 8th International Clay Shooting Target Federation’s English Sporting Championship through Sunday.

Individuals and teams are taking part in four different categories, with the main event featuring a minimum $50,000 payout.

The competition starts at 8 a.m every day and goes all day.
