McLennan man dies due to gunshot wound, Peace River man in custody

A man has succumbed to his injuries following a complaint of a person being shot in downtown Peace River last Tuesday.

Peace River RCMP say they responded to the complaint on Aug. 12, 2025, just after 3 a.m.

The adult male victim was conscious at the time of EMS and police arriving at the scene and was taken to hospital.

Tragically, he died the following day and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been called in to take over the investigation.

On Thursday Aug. 14, 2025, the Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton completed an autopsy where the cause of death of the male victim was determined homicide caused by firearm.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Anton Vincent Carifell of McLennan.

Mounties have arrested and charged 25-year-old Kelleo Alook of Peace River with:

  • Manslaughter
  • Firearms related offences
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Assault with a weapon

Alook was remanded into police custody and was scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice on Monday Aug. 18, 2025.
