Measles exposure reported at Fairview Health Complex emergency department

Aug 19, 2025 | 4:53 PM

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says someone with a confirmed case of measles has been out in public while infectious.

They were at the emergency department of the Fairview Health Complex from 5:50 p.m. on Friday, August 15 until 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, August 16.

AHS says anyone who was at the same place at the same time, has had less than two doses of measles vaccine and was born after 1970 is most at risk of contracting the disease.

Symptoms include a fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that starts three days to a week after the fever starts.

According to AHS, complications from measles can include “ear infections, pneumonia, inflammation of the brain, premature delivery, and rarely death.”

“Persons who are pregnant, less than five years of age, or have weakened immune systems are at greatest risk of serious complications,” a media release goes on to say.

Anyone who thinks they may have measles is asked to call the hotline at 1-844-944-3434.
