Spirit River Emergency Complex without on-site doctor for 24 hours

Aug 19, 2025 | 11:08 AM

Due to an inability to secure physician coverage, Alberta Health Services (AHS) is advising residents in the Spirit River area that the Central Peace Health Complex will be without an on-site doctor in their emergency department for a full day.

There is no doctor in the ED from Tuesday Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. to Wednesday Aug. 20, at 10 a.m..

Nursing staff remains on site to perform triage, assessments and give referrals to neighbouring facilities with ED’s.

People are to still call 911 with medical emergencies as EMS remains available in the community.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions. Depending on needs, people seeking care may also be made aware of services available through local pharmacies.

If coverage is found, this disruption may be cancelled.
