Alberta hosting several major sporting events
Alberta’s government says it is proud to welcome nine major national and international sporting events to the province this month and over the coming months.
Officials say Alberta is a top destination for major sporting events, with thousands of athletes, coaches and fans travelling from around the world for high-profile competitions taking place across the province. Over the coming months, Alberta will host five major international sporting events and four national championships, showcasing the province’s athletic talent and warm hospitality on the world stage.
To help bring these events to life, Alberta’s government says it is investing $895,000 through the Major Sport Event Grant Program. The government says this grant program supports organizations in hosting national and international competitions, including facility rentals, venue enhancements and promotional and marketing campaigns in the province.
“Major sport events bring energy, excitement and significant economic benefits to our communities,” states Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism and Sport. “This upcoming lineup of events highlights Alberta’s commitment to sport excellence, supports our local athletes, inspires kids to get active and helps local businesses thrive.”
