Funding increase for Grande Prairie’s Caribou Child & Youth Centre

A United Conservative Party release says more money is going into child and youth advocacy centres around Alberta.

That includes a funding increase of $10,118 for the Caribou Child & Youth Centre in Grande Prairie.

Funding increases for eight centres across the province will total $330,000.

The release says this is to “better address the rising caseloads of children and youth experiencing abuse in Alberta.”

“This funding represents another step in helping to ensure Alberta is the safest place to live, work, and raise a family. It builds on the recent release of Building on our Strengths, Alberta’s 10-Year Strategy to End Gender-Based Violence, which outlines how the province will work to prevent gender-based violence, support those impacted, and ensure those committing these crimes are held to account,” the release goes on to say.

Provincial officials say these centres help kids dealing with neglect and all forms of abuse by bringing together the police and the community to provide help.
