Peace River Forest Area wildfire danger level now extreme

Aug 26, 2025 | 10:31 AM

The wildfire danger rating for the Peace River Forest Area has risen to extreme due to lessened rain and extreme temperatures.

Of the six wildfires currently burning in the area, only one is listed as out of control at this time: PWF124, located 6 km north of Queen Elizabeth Park, and is currently less than one hectare in size.

Alberta Wildfire says agricultural activity is the primary cause of human related wildfires in the area, including improper burning practices, heavy equipment, and off-highway vehicles.

Since January 1, there have been 125 wildfires in the PRFA, burning a total of 75,612 hectares.
