School zones back in effect in Grande Prairie

Aug 28, 2025 | 12:15 PM

Today (Thursday, Aug. 28), marks the first day back to school in the Swan City, which means drivers need to be aware that school zones are in effect once again.

The Alberta Motor Association is urging drivers to take extra care around the 30 km/h school zones and playgrounds.

AMA’s School Safety Patrol has released some tips for those on the roads to make sure everyone is safe, drivers and pedestrians alike, during their commutes.

They say to consider leaving home a bit earlier to beat the rush, prepare children to use other modes of transportation like bikes and walking to school, and to teach kids to be aware of their surroundings and avoid being distracted.

Stopped drivers and pedestrians should also make eye contact to ensure safety while crossing the roads, even in crosswalks.

30km/h school zone speed limits in Grande Prairie are in effect from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, while class is in session.
