Labour Day Long Weekend tickets

Alberta RCMP warning drivers about the dangers of driving impaired

Sep 3, 2025 | 5:17 PM

Over the Labour Day long weekend, Alberta RCMP issued 1,661 traffic tickets.

Out of those, 789 speeding violations were handed out, 34 distracted driving tickets, and 19 for failing to wear a seatbelt.

Unfortunately, Mounties are reporting that 54 accidents took place, resulting in four deaths.

Additionally, 99 impaired drivers were removed from Alberta roads.

Alberta RCMP traffic sergeant Darin Turnbull discussed the impacts of driving impaired; “Fatal motor vehicle collisions are often avoidable, and we are reminded of this every long weekend when lives are lost due to factors such as drugs, alcohol, and speeding.”

RCMP remind motorists “to remember that there is no reason to get behind the wheel if you are impaired,” and keeping our roads safe is a shared responsibility.

If you observe dangerous driving, call 911.
