Spartan Controls Northwestern Centre for Industrial Automation & Innovation opens at NWP

Northwestern Polytechnic’s new engineering education centre had its grand opening Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The Spartan Controls Northwestern Centre for Industrial Automation and Innovation is a $16 million full-service training and education space to aid in instructing students in their Instrumentation and Control Technician Apprenticeship Program.

NWP President and CEO Dr. Vanessa Sheane says the new centre will allow them to have larger classes with more students per year.

Sheane says the centre was developed to increase the engineering workforce in the Peace region and meet the need for workers.

She says NWP is the largest post-secondary in northwest Alberta, in the largest centre in northwest Alberta.

Minister of Advanced Education, Myles McDougall attended the grand opening to welcome the new students and announce a $ 1-million investment to support the planning phase of an expansion of skilled trades and apprenticeship education at Northwestern Polytechnic.
