Sep 4, 2025 | 1:11 PM

Northwestern Polytechnic is getting a $1-million investment from the province to aid in expanding their trades programs.

During the opening of NWP’s new Centre for Industrial Automation & Innovation, Minster of Education Myles McDougall announced the funding through Budget 2025 to support the planning phase of an expansion of skilled trades and apprenticeship education at NWP.

McDougall says they want people in the region to see the many great opportunities in the trades industry.

McDougall says they want to support NWP as it is well positioned to provide trades workers to various communities across northern Alberta.

The funding will support planning for a new skilled trades training centre at NWP’s Grande Prairie Campus, featuring industry focused training in areas like welding, refrigeration, and construction.

The Province says by expanding apprenticeship education closer to home for northern communities they are helping to ensure northern Albertans have access to the training they need, right where it’s needed most.
