Road rage incident leads to arrests and firearms charges near Fort St. John

Four people have been arrested following a Sunday morning road rage incident in the Fort St. John, B.C. area.

Mounties in Fort St. John say on Aug. 31, at 10:54 a.m., they were alerted of an altercation on Highway 97 near Baldonnel (southeast of Fort St John) where a male had pointed a firearm at another male after road rage.

Officers located the suspect vehicle ten minutes later in Taylor, B.C. and initiated a high-risk takedown.

Four occupants of the suspect vehicle were all known to police and were taken into custody.

A search warrant of the vehicle turned up a carbine rifle, a handgun, ammunition, cash, and drugs.

The people charged were:

  • 35-year-old Travis Dion Sharyk
    • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
    • Occupying a Vehicle Knowing there was a Restricted Firearm in it
    • Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
    • Failure to Comply with a Probation Order
    • Possession of a Weapon Contrary to an Order
    • Possession of Ammunition Contrary to an Order

Sharyk has been remanded into custody with a court date set for Sept. 9.

  • 40-year-old Jolene Christine Wilders
    • Occupying a Vehicle Knowing there was a Restricted Firearm in it
    • Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
    • Failure to Comply with a Release Order

Wilders was held for her initial court appearance but was released on a Release Order with a court date set for Sept. 29.

Two other women were arrested, aged 32 and 37, and released on Undertaking with conditions and court dates.
