City of Grande Prairie Council Candidate Profile: Dylan Bressey

Sep 18, 2025 | 2:02 PM

Dylan Bressey is one of over 20 residents running for a City Council position.

He was asked to answer the following four questions with a 600-word limit.

1. What has inspired you to run for mayor/council/school trustee in the Oct. 20, 2025, municipal election?

Like many people, my wife and I originally planned to be here for just a few years. We came for the economic opportunity, but it only took a few months for us to fall in love with Grande Prairie. This city gave us the chance to build a great life, find incredible friendships, and put our own stamp on the community. We’re never leaving.

I wanted to help grow those same opportunities for my kids and for everyone who calls Grande Prairie home. And I’m proud of what Council has accomplished, especially given the challenges our community has faced over the past few years. But there is still so much more to get done. You can see my vision and priorities at bressey.ca/platform.

I also want to continue serving Grande Prairie as Vice President with Alberta Municipalities. This role is a platform for advocacy, allowing me to work on fixing unfair electricity fees, returning Council Codes of Conduct, and ensuring municipalities are properly funded. Through its Services Corporation, it also provides crucial services like employee benefits, electricitty and insurance to the City and many nonprofits in our community. Continuing in this role is another way I can directly advance Grande Prairie’s interests.

2. What skills or experience do you have that you feel would make you a good fit for the role?

I have a unique blend of professional experience across the private, public, and non-profit sectors.

My career has included running youth resiliency programs and a large summer camp. I have eight years of experience on City Council and am on the Board of Alberta Municipalities. I have run small businesses, and am the Audit & Finance Chair for the Alberta Municipal Services Corporation.

But experience isn’t just about what you do on the clock. I founded the Grande Prairie Disc Golf Club. I’ve helped build up a Neighbourhood Association, served on a school Parent Committee, welcomed visitors as an Ambassador for the Alberta Games, and volunteered with the United Way to help address childhood poverty.

All of these roles center around collaboration. I’m passionate about bringing people together to get things done. In doing so, I work my butt off, seek creative solutions, and always come prepared.

.I’ve demonstrated these skills in how I engage with the public. Throughout my time on Council, I have made it a priority to show up at community events, meet residents for coffee, and stay active online. I’m known for thoughtful, respectful, and fact-based discussions. This approach is crucial not just to healthy public engagement, but also to working with my Council colleagues to chart the best path forward for the City.

3. What do you feel are the key or main election issues in your community, and what are the issues of priority for you?

My:

  • An Open City Hall
  • A Focus on the Boring Stuff
  • Affordability
  • Community
  • Safety

I believe in transparency and conversation, which is why I’ve published a full platform at bressey.ca/platform.

For me, a platform isn’t just for a campaign; it’s a to-do list for an entire term. I invite you to check it out and let me know what you think I’m missing and where you have a different perspective.

4. Where can people learn more about you?

You can find detailed information about my experience, my full platform, and my vision for Grande Prairie on my website: www.bressey.ca.

I’m also active on social media. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram: @DylanBresseyGP.
