City of Grande Prairie Candidate Profile: Len Auger

Sep 22, 2025 | 3:10 PM

Len Auger is one of over 20 residents running for a City Council position.

He was asked to answer the following four questions with a 600-word limit.

1. What has inspired you to run for mayor/council/school trustee in the Oct. 20, 2025, municipal election?

I have lived in Grande Prairie for many years and have seen the growth of our city. Along with the growth, I have seen and heard the issues that our people have expressed regarding costs associated with managing the city. There are many current community concerns from citizens that need to be addressed. I have also seen many positive changes occur the last few years and appreciate the work previous councils have done. As an active community member and encouraged by others, I want to be part of the council that looks after the best interest of the citizens of Grande Prairie.

2. What skills or experience do you have that you feel would make you a good fit for the role?

I have some previous Municipal experience as I was on Town Council when I lived in Saskatchewan. I am quite familiar with Councillor roles and responsibilities and the processes to run a community. I have worked in the Forest industry for 35 years, as an operator and then into management for my last 16 years. Working as a member of a team for the many years has allowed me to be a team player. From my experience in management and leadership roles, I do believe I can work with anyone in a positive, constructive and respectful manner. I have been in leadership roles and on committees at the local, provincial and national levels supporting both Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups and interests. My involvement in leadership roles with community organizations and committees have given me experience in listening, being present and making tough decisions. I am a small business owner and operator. As a small business owner, I understand the hard work and effort required to achieve success.

3. What do you feel are the key or main election issues in your community, and what are the issues of priority for you?

My key election issues are:

· Fiscal responsibility including tax management, cost reduction eliminating program redundancies and ensuring transparency

· Economic development to ensure the viability of the city encouraging more business support and reducing red tape

· Improve social programming including consideration of affordable housing and homelessness Initiatives such as supports and programs

The issue that I think is priority is Fiscal responsibility for all departments in the city.
