NWP “continuing to build momentum” with new Board of Governors additions

Sep 23, 2025 | 1:53 PM

Northwestern Polytechnic has welcomed three new members to its Board of Governors.

It was confirmed by a Government of Alberta Order in Council last week (Thursday, Sept. 18).

NWP Board of Governors Chair Shawna Miller said they are pleased to welcome these “outstanding community contributors”:

  • Jan Nutting – A partner at Fletcher Mudryk LLP, who helps business owners align their operations with tax strategies and personal financial planning. Jan is a member of the Swan City Rotary Club, has previously served on several not-for-profit boards, and lives in the County of Grande Prairie with his wife, Tonia, and their son, Grant.
  • Tab Pollock – A Qualified Associate Financial Planner and Elder Planning Counsellor who has been with Neil and Associates since 2010. He supports clients with retirement, estate, and investment planning. Outside of work, he enjoys hockey, golf, travelling, and time with his family.
  • Wendy Schmaltz – Grew up and went to school in the Worsley/Fairview area before earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from Grande Prairie Regional College (Northwestern Polytechnic). A widow and mother of three young adults, she operates a CPA firm in Fairview and, together with her children, manages the family farm in Worsley.

Miller said these new additions will allow the Polytechnic to move forward with “a clear focus and commitment, positioning themselves to “support the needs of our region.”

These additions are also expected to “broaden reach and steadily advance post-secondary opportunities in the north,” according to NWP President and CEO, Dr. Vannesa Sheane.
