Interim report on Alberta health contract scandal not finished, won’t be made public

Sep 24, 2025 | 12:02 PM

Alberta’s government says it has yet to receive an interim report on the investigation into allegations of corruption over health contracts but it should be finished in the coming days.

The government says former Manitoba judge Raymond Wyant had until today to submit it but still has interviews to finish.

It also says the interim report won’t be made public.

The report was initially expected in May, but the province extended the deadline because of the number of documents involved and interviews Wyant wanted to do.

The deadline for the final report was set for Oct. 15.

The allegations stem from a wrongful dismissal lawsuit filed by the former head of Alberta Health Services, who claims individuals in high government places interfered in overpriced health deals for private companies while she was in the job.

The allegations have not been tested in court, and Premier Danielle Smith’s government has denied any wrongdoing.

“On March 10th, Minister of Justice Mickey Amery committed in the Alberta Legislature that Justice Wyant’s interim report would be posted on Alberta.ca as soon as it is complete,” reads a statement released Wednesday from Christina Gray, Alberta’s New Democrat House Leader.

“Even though we have little faith in this carefully constructed report, we hope the Minister holds to his commitment,” the statement continues.

“While we appreciate the work that the retired Justice has done, we will not be surprised if this report—with every last detail controlled by the same people implicated in the scandal—ends up being a total whitewash of this government.

“Given the scope and severity of the allegations in the CorruptCare scandal, only a fully independent public inquiry, with the power to subpoena witness testimonies under oath, would have gotten to the full truth of what went on. Alberta’s New Democrat Caucus will not stop calling for a real public inquiry until Albertans get the answers and accountability they deserve.

“Anything short of a fully public inquiry into the CorruptCare scandal is an insult to every single Albertan who depends on our health care system.”
