PBR returns to Grande Prairie

Sep 25, 2025 | 1:04 PM

Saturday, September 27 marks the return of the PBR Peace Country Invitational at Bonnetts Energy Centre.

This year’s event is one night only, featuring the best bull riders from around the world.

2017’s PBR Canada Rookie of the Year Coy Robbins of Camrose, AB, sits ranked 6th in the Canada Cup Series heading into action Saturday night in Grande Prairie.

He says he’s had a good season so far.

“As any high achieving athlete reflects back on their year, I guess you’ll always see room for improvement and what could’ve been better… but at the same time it’s been a solid year.”

Robbins says staying healthy in the bull riding game is half the battle, and now that the season is coming to a close soon, he wants to finish strong.

“A guy is striving for first, but there’s so many points up for grabs between the event this weekend in Grande Prairie and the other two in October leading into the finals. I look at it is if you can be in the top five going into the finals, you got a really got shot at leaving a Canadian champion.”

His favourite event so far this year was one he produced down in his hometown of Camrose, the Rose City Invitational, but says it’s hard to choose a favourite otherwise. He says after planning and putting on that event, he has a new appreciation for anyone that’s behind the scenes making it all happen.

He notes there’s not much of a ‘pre-game ritual’ for himself, saying he doesn’t put too much thought into what to do other than showing up with a clear mind.

“I’ve always enjoyed Grande Prairie, it’s been a fun event, and I have found a little bit of luck there over the years… and hopefully this year I’ll walk away as champion!”

Robbins says it always helps the competitors when there is a sold-out crowd cheering them on.
