Postal Workers Strike

Local Canada Post workers walking the picket lines

Sep 26, 2025 | 2:20 PM

Residents passing by the Grande Prairie Canada Post office will notice some workers on strike, picketing for better wages, hours, and working conditions.

A union representing Canada Post workers says the federal government has made a direct attack on the future of the postal service.

The union says it launched a countrywide strike in response to Ottawa’s plans to end door-to-door mail delivery for almost all households within the next decade, among other changes to shore up the company’s finances.

This is the second time this year that postal workers walked off the job, once again stopping the flow of mail.

Canada Post says mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered during the strike, and some post offices will be closed; they also suspended service guarantees for items already in the postal network and will not accept new items until the labour disruption is over.

EGP is expecting to hear from the local C.U.P.W. 744 Union President come Monday, Sept 29.
