GPPSD Trustee Election Candidate Profile: Donna Koch

Oct 3, 2025 | 1:21 PM

Donna Koch is one of 12 individuals running for seven Grande Prairie Public School Board Trustee vacancies.

She was asked to provide a candidate bio, or answer four questions in 600 words or less.

1. What has inspired you to run for mayor/council/school trustee in the Oct. 20, 2025, municipal election?

I have had the privilege of serving as trustee this past 2021-2025 term for Grande Prairie Public School Division. Students, teachers, staff and parents continue to inspire me.

There is a learning curve and with a solid understanding of our system I remain deeply committed to the work of the board which is a team effort. But I’m not done if you will have me?1

I was born and raised in the Peace Country calling Grande Prairie home for over 35 years. There’s nothing more important than our children! In fact our own children and many family members and friends have had the benefit of a quality public eduction and I want to give back.

My belief is in ” Together Creating Great Citizens”

2. What skills or experience do you have that you feel would make you a good fit for the role?

As a Nurse Consultant including on governance , Police Commissioner , Rotarian, Business Owner , Committee Board Member and Volunteer, I believe I have the skills, ability, knowledge and time to fulfill the role. Throughout my career in health, my relationship was strong with the education system. My experience has taught me me you get out of your community what you put into it. We are never done learning and this role as trustee has taught me about the importance of listening, engagement and thoughtful decision making.

3. What do you feel are the key or main election issues in your community, and what are the issues of priority for you?

The key or main issue right now is I Support Teachers!

Our board has been very strategic in developing Advocacy Priorities including Student Outcomes, Public Education Funding ad Staff Supports . Student outcomes means being successful and healthy and prepared for after high school. Funding must be increased! And great staff which we have will mean great students and great citizens.

My personal platform is certainly in alliance with our current board priorities and is focused on 3 areas:

✏️ Public Education for Everyone

Best possible education for everyone, including diversity and belonging. It is students first and we need to continue to provide a variety of programs to support student success. Having said that we need to listen, to parents, teachers, and staff. They know best.

✏️ Health & Wellness

As a health and wellness nurse consultant and leader for over 35 years, I believe health and education to be fundamental and intertwined. My vast experience makes me uniquely qualified to support the overall physical, nutritional, and mental health needs of the students and staff we serve.

✏️ Governance, Passionate Leadership

Every board requires good governance and in my current role as a consultant I work with organizations across Canada and internationally addressing quality and safety and continuous improvement. I am experience in planning, partnership, strategy, leadership, finance, people, emergency preparedness, physical environment, land development, and integrated quality management.

4. Where can people learn more about you?

I would be very happy if you would contact me
