County of Grande Prairie Council Candidate Profile: Lynn Driedger

Oct 8, 2025 | 7:10 AM

Lynn Driedger is one of three Division 4 residents running for a County Council position.

She was asked to answer the following four questions with a 600-word limit.

1. What has inspired you to run for mayor/council/school trustee in the Oct. 20, 2025, municipal election?

I’ve always been passionate about governance and advocacy, and I truly enjoy the work that goes into building strong, connected communities. What inspired me to run is the desire to be a reliable, engaged voice for the people in our county—someone they can count on as we navigate important changes and opportunities in our area. I believe in public service rooted in listening, collaboration, and action, and I’m committed to making a meaningful, positive impact for everyone who calls this place home.

2. What skills or experience do you have that you feel would make you a good fit for the role?

I’ve had the opportunity to serve in a number of leadership roles that have given me broad experience at both the local and provincial levels. I served as a Trustee on the Grande Prairie Public School Board, where I sat on various committees that shaped policy and governance. In addition, I’ve served as Executive Officer on a land development board and as Executive Officer on the local Home Builders board, which provided me with deep insight into our region’s growth, development, and housing needs. My involvement also includes volunteering on the board of the Society for Christian Education Grande Prairie, as well as participating in church, school, and community fundraisers. These experiences have equipped me with a balanced perspective, strong decision-making skills, and a collaborative leadership style that I will bring to Council to serve effectively and represent our community well.

3. What do you feel are the key or main election issues in your community, and what are the issues of priority for you?

What do you feel are the key or main election issues in your community and are the issues of priority for you? A few important topics in this election are access to affordable and reliable water, improving our roads, and managing growth responsibly. Water is essential—not just for daily life, but for agriculture and future development. We need practical, long-term solutions to ensure affordable and accessible water for everyone. Our roads connect our communities, and maintenance has been solid in many areas—but some still need upgrading, resurfacing, or paving for the first time. As our population grows and traffic increases, we need to invest in road infrastructure that meets today’s needs and supports future growth. And as our area grows, we must guide development thoughtfully, balancing new opportunities with the need to protect the character and quality of life in our communities.
