The City and County of Grande Prairie Council’s have jointly signed a pair of agreements centred around facilities in the Grande Prairie area.

The Recreation and Culture New or Expanded Facilities Agreement establishes a formal process for addressing the planning and potential funding of new recreational or cultural facilities and ensures projects with regional benefit are reviewed collaboratively between City and County.

The Multisport Dome Capital Agreement reflects the County’s commitment to supporting a new recreation facility within the city, and a pledge of up to $2.8 million in one-time capital contributions from the County.

“Signing these agreements between the City and County reminds us that our success is best when it is shared. We know the power of a shared vision in our region, and the long-standing impact this regional collaboration has on creating a strong, sustainable future for all our residents and communities across the region,” said Mayor of Grande Prairie, Jackie Clayton. “We look forward to the positive impact this work is going to have on building sustainable and accessible recreational opportunities across the region for years to come.”

“Both agreements demonstrate our shared priority to ensure County and City residents have equitable access to modern recreation and cultural spaces,” stated County Reeve Bob Marshall. “The agreements build connections, opportunities, and a legacy of collaboration that will benefit generations to come.”

Both agreements were signed Monday, Oct. 6 during both council’s respective meetings.
